Comments: Promote "Family Fitness Outings" to WMLL.

My boys and I have had several enjoyable bike trips to Bill Lister Field this spring now that the Southwest Path has been completed (at the end of the season last summer). There is also a good underpass beneath the Beltline connecting Struck St. (just West of Ray-O-Vac) with Grand Canyon Drive and fairly safe bike routes to the northwest and far west. Frisch Road and Gilbert Road are good conduits from the far southwest areas of town. See the "Madison Bicycling Resource Guide & Route Map" for more guidance on picking out routes for your team's families.

Since our loyal parent fans mainly sit still during games, I think it would be great for them to pump some blood before and after the games.

For some people, it will be almost as quick to bike to games as to drive, when major intersections are congested. From the West High area where we live, it takes about 22 minutes to get to the ball park, and going on a slight downhill grade most of the way back takes about 16 1/2 minutes - Just about what it takes to drive, thanks to the complete absence of stop lights along the SW Path.

While most of us would be hard-pressed to do this for a 4:00 game, biking to later games is very reasonable. Eight o' clockers are the most enjoyable for us, as traffic on Hammersley is pretty quiet by 7:00, and the way back home is practically deserted by urban standards.

I'm going to offer a special promotion to our team members if they can get their parents to ride to at least one game this season. Encourage your teams' families to give it a try (complete with a reminder to use helmets for all, lights for coming home from 8:00 games, and an admonition NEVER to run red lights or stop signs) - It could become habit forming!

Comments: Hi guys,

Another rule interpretation:

Am I right that if a batter swings and his/her bat hits the catcher's glove on the follow through, this is NOT catcher's interference?

I think we had a missed call in our last game on this.

Overall, the umping has been very good in my opinion. Yes, there are some mistakes but they're learning too and making a fine effort.

I've got 4 games in 5 days coming up. Now that's baseball!!!

Comments: To Burkhalter coaches - There is no advancing a runner on a poor return throw from the catcher to the pitcher in this league. We didn't protest it this time (5/21) because our kids had dug too deep a hole already. Thanks for your cooperation.
